    Requirements include:

    • Have an iPhone or Android Smartphone
    • Being 20 years old or older
    • Having a qualifying vehicle (car, van or truck)
    • Having a full, unrestricted, Australian drivers licence
    • Your own ABN (Australian Business Number) or ACN (Australian Company Number)
    • GST registration
    • Relevant minimum insurances
    • Working rights in Australia; and
    • A clean background check, less than 6 months old
  • How long does the application process take?

Applying is quick and simple. You will be contacted by our team within a few days, usually much quicker, to discuss your suitability to drive with custm. We will assess your skills and walk you through how to pick up and deliver a job safely, explain how to use our app, how your pay works and all the other important things you need to know before you hit the road. You could start earning as quickly as 48 hours from your application.

  • Do I have support once I’m on the road?

Our drivers are our people. Most of our team were previous drivers, so we understand the challenges you face on the road daily. Your safety and success is our primary concern. As such, we have Driver Ambassadors and Territory Leaders located at all of our client host sites to support you each morning and get you on the road. You are not alone, we are here to support you and actively cheering for you!

Our Support team is there for you if you ever need help when delivering. You can reach out to our Support team from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM AEST, Mon-Fri. You can contact Support by calling 03 9793 7262.

In the unfortunate circumstance, you have an incident on a job, you can report it live within our driver app, but you can always contact us directly at Fleet HQ. Here is a short explainer video on how to report an incident via our custm Driver App. Emergency assistance: If you have an emergency during delivery times, please contact 000 for help. Always call 000 before contacting the custm team if you need emergency services.

  • What kind of deliveries will I make?

When you sign up with custm, you’ll pick up packages from custm client host depots and deliver them directly to customers. You will arrive at the depot at a scheduled time, load your vehicle with multiple deliveries (at least 20) then once you’re cleared to leave, you will deliver these parcels. Delivery blocks are between 4 and 12 hours long depending on your vehicle type and client requirements, so you can choose the hours that you work. Parcel sizes vary, and can range from 200 grams to 25 kg. Generally, parcels are small and light, but where heavier items are to be delivered, a trolley can be used to avoid heavy lifting.

  • What should I do if I have a question about delivery while I'm on the road?

You can contact your Driver Ambassador or Territory Leader, or call Support via the app. You must always comply with laws on the use of mobile phones while driving. It’s general safety knowledge that any calls while driving must be taken hands-free.

  • Is there anything I need to bring or special clothes I need to wear?

As an independent contractor, you can bring anything with you to aid in your deliveries and you are free to choose your attire while delivering with custm. However, for your own safety, it is a requirement for you to wear steel cap boots when in the depot or making deliveries. You are also required to wear a safety vest at the depot and we recommend you continue to wear it while making deliveries. Safety vests are available at our offices nationwide.

Having the following items with you makes your shift more comfortable and more productive. The more prepared you are, the more delivery job shifts you can accept and complete.

    • Phone holder
    • Phone charger and headset – in-vehicle chargers are available upon request
    • Security padlocks (vehicle dependent and not applicable for cars or vans)
    • Tie-down lashing, clamps and straps (vehicle dependent and not applicable for cars or vans)
    • Trolley
    • Water bottle – stay hydrated!
  • How do earnings work?

When you see a job shift offering, you will see the pick-up location and estimated duration. We pride ourselves in being an advocate for our courier drivers and constantly work to ensure you are paid fairly. All of our minimum amounts will be provided to you during onboarding and you will be able to track these in our app. We have a Driver Rewards program that rewards you as you complete more job shifts. The targets are achievable and the rewards significant, starting from $500 all the way up to $1500. Furthermore, you can refer drivers via our App and earn more.

Actual earnings may vary based on your location, actual job shift length and other factors. Mandatory breaks are unpaid and will be set based on the time you are on the road during your job shift. Further details are provided within the app at job shift acceptance.

(For information regarding the specific laws in NSW and Victoria, including information about rates, please click here and here.)

  • Will I be reimbursed for mileage, parking or tolls?

As an independent contractor, you are generally responsible for your own expenses. Your overall pay rates include an amount for any mileage payments required by law. Some of our host clients allow for the use of toll roads – if this is the case, you will be reimbursed for this toll once you submit a request with supporting evidence.

  • How and when do I get paid?

You can track your payments on the Past Jobs screen of the custm Driver App. Custm sends payments every Monday through a direct deposit to the bank account you provided during sign-up. If you are eligible for toll reimbursement your payment will be disbursed as described above after you provide the required information for the client host to verify. In the event of a bank or public holiday, please allow one additional business day for payments to show up in your bank account.

Please watch this short explainer video.

  • Is there consistent work, and can I choose when and where I work?

The great thing about working for custm is we offer a balance between flexibility and consistent work. We supply courier drivers to multiple depots throughout Australia, so there is always work available, up to 6 days per week. You can choose the days you are available and there are even opportunities to determine your hours. Just ask our friendly team and they will assist you in finding the best home/s that suit your lifestyle.

  • What will I need to do if something goes wrong on the road?

The safety of any driver and the valuable cargo they carry, is our highest priority. As such, we have a Fleet HQ to support you throughout your day, while incidents can be reported on the spot within our driver app. We track each driver as they go about their day so we can respond quickly and efficiently to these unfortunate events. Any reports and/or documentation will be communicated to all parties as required.

  • On average, what is the size of the parcels delivered?

Parcel sizes vary, and can range from 200 grams to 25 kgs. Generally parcels are small and light, but where heavier items are to be delivered, a trolley can be used to avoid heavy lifting.
